I can no longer wallow in the suck of my current WIP. It's like quicksand. The more I write, the deeper I sink into the dreaded Pit of Profoundly Pathetic Prose.

So, I took two days off to desuckify earlier chapters. WHAT A RELIEF. Yeah, yeah, I know "First drafts can suck," and believe me, this one will. But I've learned I have a suck quota that I dare not exceed lest I lose all self-esteem and motivation.

That, and Elisa might sit on me.

The book is still far from perfect, but it's no longer stuck in the PPPP, and I no longer yearn for matches and lighter fluid.

Boy do I know how that feels! I've avoided mine all week, and now I've sat in front of the computer for 2 hours and tried to avoid the red-inked page of edits sitting directly to the left of my keyboard.

(If I don't make eye contact, maybe it'll go away....)

Yeah, I tried that no eye contact thing. It just haunted me in my sleep. Trixy little WIPs.

I have complete faith that you will work your way through your PPPP issues and put together a gem of a novel that will sell millions of copies and bring you tons of adoring groupies!

Here's hoping the adoring groupies are mainly comprised of hot cabana boys.

(and thx!!)

You **will** get over the hump and finish it. Just plow ahead, make note if you think you've left something out or want a little more finesse, do something unexpected to your characters if you're stuck, kill off a main character you love, or write the end scene before you've reached it.

Um, is that enough incentive to blind, gag, and toss the Suck Munkey into the river?

Ow.

From now on, whenever I have WIP-hate, I'll just think of the EditorSpoon. And shudder. And write.

:)

When it comes to writing, I say, whatever gets you through. Good work!

Two options:

1) Plow through, as others have so aptly suggested; or,
2) Set it aside and work on The Story That Will Not Be Named Sunglasses at Night.

Either way, I want to read something by you soon, and blog entries doesn't count!

P.S. - You're probably overestimating the suckitude.
