Saw it. Loved it.
Not a perfect film, but one I could watch again. It's a typcial Joss-verse with unlikely (but entertaining) glibness, twist-yer-gut ironies, and character DEATH. But what I loved most were the action sequences. There's a rawness to the fighting that takes the tension up about 20 notches. And guess what happens when you combine martial arts with classical ballet? Summer Glau. *happysigh* What a beautiful, beautiful person. I could watch her move all day.
Some reviewers complained about the lack of special effects and the choppy cutting. Didn't bother me a bit. The special effects were just fine, thanks, and the choppiness felt stylistic. Along with bobbing frames and weird angles (I'm sure there's a non-layman's word for this), the choppiness gave the movie an immediacy, a realness that Star Wars sorely lacked.
In fact, it's a lot like Star Wars, (The original three, that is. I've heard rumors of others being made??) and in a good way. It's space opera at its finest, but with a clever script and less discernable morality. Star Wars all grown up.
The sound editing is fantastic.
Go see it. It's worth the ten bucks.

I mean can you really feel tension, danger, and fear for characters when they are fighting a back and forth battle across rooftops and swallowing spinning side kicks with no effect? Tension is from implied danger and fear for a character you love, not from fancier and fancier moves.
