I did it. I quit. *dies*

My new mantra is: "It was the right thing to do, it was the right thing to do, it was the right..."

I'm the third person in my dept to quit in the last month. Another one is quitting later today. Yet another is quitting in two weeks. All of which will bolster my unemployment case for quitting with "good cause."

After this weekend's conference, there will be writing. Much writing. In fact, pirate!Jodi has given me a deadline of Nov 1 for finishing Elisa. And since I fear her greatly, I must comply.

I've gotten such helpful reviews on ch. 4 from the OWW crew. *loffs* Favorite comment so far:

Elisa: "I clutch my skirt with my fingers."
[livejournal.com profile] sosostris2012: As opposed to what? Her toes?

(Bwah!!!!!!)

Dude(s). I just quit my job.

::hugs::

That's a very scary thing you did, but it sounds like what needed to be done. I'm sorry you had to endure such an awful environment for so long.

GOOD LUCK with your unemployment. Sounds like you've definitely got a case there.

And, great luck with the writing. I missed a chapter you put up on OWW, and I'd love to read it. Any chance of getting a copy? (Please? Pretty please?)

Yeah, I'm scared outta my brain. But, it was the right thing to do... *g*

Eeee, of course I'd love to send you the missing chapter. Which one do you need? (And thx for reading. :-) )

I'll keep good thoughts for you.

Are you going to stay home and write for a while?

I read chapter 1 and enjoyed it. Last I checked, you still had Chapter 3 up at OWW? Is it still up? If so, I just need Chapter 2. If not, I need whatever falls between Chapter 1 and the next chapter posted.

I'm trying to get back into reviewing. :)

Holy crap!

*tentative dance of joy, gradually turning into full-fledged dance of joy because it was the right thing to do*

Congratulations on making a bold move. If I was wearing a cap right now, I'd probably doff it to you, because you've garnered a heap of respect and admiration from me.

A small part of me will be hoping the unemployment claim works out for you, but the rest is certain you'll make things work out for yourself.

In short, Go you.

How sad, everyone is like "Rae, glad you quit, good going dude!" Even me. I'm all-- Yeah! Freedom *best Mel getting his guts pulled out impersonation* !

Sit down tonight with a copy of Office Space and some...ok, not comfort food or alcohol, how about the want ads?

Great timing too, now you will have nothing to worry about when out here.

You are a brave and honorable Rae. I am very proud of you. *hugs* It was the right thing to do. You were not in a good place or working for good people.

Go forth and conquer the novel. I'll be right behind you. :)

Hooray, Rae, for being brave enough to do what you need to do!

And many good wishes for going out and finding a new and much better job.

When you've calmed down enough, please give us a play-by-play of how the quitting went. I'm sure we all want to vicariously experience it. :-)

And since I am back on the job-hunting (no, I still have a job; I just want one that pays more money and has better promotion prospects), do you want to be job-hunting buddies? Like workout buddies? Sending each other encouragement and reminders?

Girl! But it was the right thing to do. They sound like sociopaths there and if this mass resignation doesn't send a message to their bosses... But whatever. Go you!

Funny you should say this. I just unofficially diagnosed one of my co-workers as a sociopath. Look for a "Sociopath" lj post soon! (Truly. She is waaaay interesting and must be immortalized by the mighty blog.)

Congrats.

"I told myself, I'm 27, if I cannot dictate the conditions of my labor, I will henseforth cease to work. I learned when I was young that the only true life I had was the life of my brain. But if it's true that the only true life I have is the life of my brain, what sense does it make to hand that brain to somebody for eight hours a day for their particular use on the presumption that at the end of the day they will give it back in an unmultilated condition? Fat chance!" -Frying Pan Jack (quoted by the folk singer U. Utah Phillips)
