I've reached a turning point. One of those crossroads with far-reaching effects. *deep breath*

Do I:
A) Buy a whole new wardrobe?

or
B) Lose 5-10 lbs?

Arguments for A:
1. I don't mind not being thin. I even like a little softness here and there.
2. Shopping is more fun than exercising.
3. Two words: January Sales

Arguments for B:
1. I'd rather drop several hundred dollars on a writers' conference.
2. It would be good for me to at least look at what I'm eating.
3. I need to exercise for lots of reason, the least of which is staying "thin."

*ponders*
*vacillates*

A little padding is good, and if your weight isn't a health issue then screw anyone else.

On the other hand, you could be Bear's and my exercise buddy! Exercise is fun!

Having exercise buddies does help. Especially if they're willing to do virtual Goth-ercise.

I vote for A and B. Exercise, eat healthier and buy some new cool clothes.

What a GREAT idea!!! I can do both!

Hmm. Are you sure you need to lose 5-10 pounds? There is such a thing as too skinny... So I guess my vote would be a happy medium -- watch what ya eat enough to stay healthy, and buy enough new clothes to be happy. Win-win. (Sort of Shay's advice, right?)

I'm definitely into win-win... And no, I'm not worried about being "too" skinny. I eat way too much pizza for that, and have no intention of giving up my addiction completely. :o)

I'm going to back Shay up. Both A & B! :D

Once I get over this cough -- I still hack up a lung any time I try to do any decent amount of physical activity -- I'm going to start yoga-ing again. And I'm not doing it to get thin because, well, I don't need the doctor to yell at me again about being too skinny. I'm doing it because dude, OUT OF SHAPE. D:

Yes, exactly! Wacked "thin" issues aside, it's just better all around to be IN SHAPE. It might mean better focus, more hours devoted to productive writing... *g*

Ahhhh...the first male poster. You know we men are shallow. I remember once sitting with a bunch of guys and they were all bitching that their wives had gained a little weight. I was cracking up...because I knew all the wives in question. I had to point out to them that while the wives had but maybe 5 to 10 pounds on since marriage we the guys had put on 25 to 30...

We're such hypocrites...

*laughing*

:P

You're very skinny. I can't imagine you have to lose any weight. But exercise is a good thing. Lets ignore the health side of it for a second. As a writer of fantasy/sci fi, shouldn't you be reminded of what exertion feels like? Perhaps what is possible and what isn't physically possible? It is sort of like standing in the rain sometimes to know what it feels like to be cold and wet. So I say you get some sort of exercise stuff going...

Plus I get many of my ideas while exercising. I know this sounds crazy, but I'll often be doing some sort of exercise and think, "She stabs him! Yes. That is how she pries the information out of him. That could work...."

:)

And plus I don't want you spending money on clothes. Booorrrrrrriiiinnnnnggg. Much better to come to a writing workshop. BTW...which one are we all aiming for again?

:D

-Later dude

That's a really good point. I can't remember reading about the fearless hero getting shin splints, or a pulled groin, or tennis elbow... Hmmmm...

And yeah...which workshop are we shooting for now?? *confused*

Damn smart ass...

Now I'm confused. Are you confused about my question or are we all no longer trying to find a worthwhile writing conference that we can:

a) network

b) geek out by talking about writing in real time

I always come down on the side of exercise. Even if it means gaining weight in the form of muscle. There's being too thin... and there's succumbing to an unhealthy lifestyle that's going to cause more problems down the road than just a teensy-tiny bit of unsightly flab.

Date: 2005-01-12 11:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] raecarson.livejournal.com
Exactly!! I'm more concerned with the direction my lifestyle is headed if I don't get a handle on things. The extra 5 lbs doesn't bug me; it's what the extra 5 lbs means about how I'm treating myself...

That's my baby sister, Hannah. She was born when I was 23. We were having "sister time" and decided to eat the webcam (nice with lemon).

Here's a thought.....if Hannah were your age and in your position and asking you the same question............What would you advise her?

Betcha that would be the best advice possible!

waddya think?

Hmmm...I would want Hannah to be healthy. No matter what she looked like!

Think simple

My solution:

- Buy muumuus and baggy pants.

- throw away your scale, and just eat right, exercise and get regular check-ups.

Muumuus RULE!!!

Hmmm... both so tempting!

But you could... Eat healthier (I know, look who's talking) and buy new clothes to reward yourself! :D

Dude...

I have the perfect way for you to look at this question...

Sit back.

Close your eyes.

And try to imagine what Rook Bartely would do in your place...

Then you'll have your answer.

Have fun on your new red cyclone...

Dude!!! It's funny you should say this, because last night, I watched the first couple eps of "The New Generation." It was sooooo much fun! (kinda corny, now that I'm all grown up, but fun)

And I still want a cyclone. Pink.
