Kitty Update!
Nov. 21st, 2005 12:25 pmOur formerly feral feline friend has decided to aggressively pursue a life of domesticity. He fears nothing in the house, not even his hissy-fit big brother Butler. Schrody never hides, never growls or hisses. He uses the Paw of Insistence to grab my pant leg as I pass or to invite me to play. He's learning to use the litterbox. He loves a good tummy rub. (Yay! I was hoping my next child would be a tummy kitty.) His hip bones no longer seem on the verge of bursting through his skin.
The leg is doing so much better. He puts more weight on it every day. Close observation shows that his hamstring gives him more trouble than the bone itself. I let him out of his crate for short periods of supervised time and can usually wear him down with a vigorous cuddle. Yesterday, though, I was sitting at the computer when the little turd hopped into my lap. Baaad kitty. Naturally, I was delighted that he could launch himself so far, but still. Baaaaaad kitty. I've kept a closer eye on him since.
He's starting to worry his stitches. Anyone know a good ploy for keeping a kitty mouth away from a healing incision?
Poor un-photogenic Schro. He's waaay cuter than this, cross my heart:

Holy Sasquatch, Batman!!!

Date: 2005-11-21 08:50 pm (UTC)I'm sure a pet store would have something you can use... A bitter apple spray (that's a spray that tastes like bitter apples, not an apple spray that's bitter about it's lot in life) keeps the PowerBunny from chewing on stuff she shouldn't (she just licks it instead. She's odd). But if not a pet store, I'm sure the vet has something, hopefully something that's not an embarrassing cone-collar that will make him reconsider this life of domesticity.

Date: 2005-11-21 10:42 pm (UTC)Sorry =/
Mélusine was a real ass with her collar on - she'd climb into everything, and on top of that I have rarely seen a more stupid cat than her lol ... the last day we put her collar on we put all sorts of TV channel names on it to make her look like a real sattelite dish - those things are fun to decorate ;)

Date: 2005-11-21 11:46 pm (UTC)As for keeping his mouth from the stitches, all I can suggest are those ugly gramophone-style collars. Maybe there's some kind of wound care powder that cat's hate the taste of?

Date: 2005-11-22 04:46 am (UTC)try the e-collar for Shrody. It makes them look comical, but it does the job.

Date: 2005-11-22 09:58 am (UTC)Even more ridiculous was our dog. We had to get the biggest collar in stock for him when he was neutered because he managed to twist around and get to his stitches somehow. It was especially amusing to see him plunk his "megaphone" down around the water bowl so he could drink.
