I had $50 in the budget this month toward the DVD collection, and I encountered a soul-wrenching dilemna: Alias Season Three? Or the new Star Wars Trilogy boxed set? Sydney or Leia? Vaughn or Solo? CIA Secret Agent or Jedi Knight? AAAAAhhhhh! In desperation, I put it up to vote with my co-workers. Star Wars won.

I watched Episode IV last night and I loved every second. I understand that the acting is poor, that the screenplay is even worse, and that it's no longer considered attractive for men to have long, feathered hair that parts in the middle. I know that there is really no sound in space, that explosion graphics no longer need to resemble 4th of July sparklers, and that R2-D2 is really an upside-down garbage can.

Even knowing these things, I LOVE this movie. Maybe because it was my first sci-fi/fantasy experience? I was a highly-impressionable three year old when I saw it in the theater, and I vividly remember my fascination with the wookie and the buns on Princess Leia's head. By the time Empire Strikes Back came out, I was a true fan (I was Princess Leia 3 years in a row for Halloween), and when Jedi was released, I cried like a baby as Luke turned his fathah away from the Dark Side.

I still wish I had a lightsaber. I still hum the Mos Eisley cantina song. I'm still in love with Luke Skywalker.

May the Force be with you all.

yeah, i didn't mind the tweakings all up. but i was very miffed about putting christiansen in -- by the same token, why not then replace alec guinness with ewan mcgregor? i just don't see what they were thinking they'd achieve there.
