Wow. *hugs and thx to all people everywhere who want to help*

But. Bush, buddy, now is not the time for stubborn pride. ASK FOR HELP, moron.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,168203,00.html

ETA: The story has been changed to reflect more openness on Bush's part. Turns out, he was only partially quoted the first time.

Original quote: "We're going to take care of our own business."

Current quote: "You know," he said, "we would love help, but we're going to take care of our own business as well, and there's no doubt in my mind we'll succeed."

Our media at work.

My favorite news story of the day is about the Canadian search and rescue team that was deployed to help with NOLA, but wasn't allowed into the country by Homeland Security.

I weep!

Ah, geez.

I do understand the threat. We are more vulnerable to terrorist attack than ever, blah, blah. But how can you weigh possible tragedy against the fact that people are dying right now? It just boggles.

Yeah, you can't trust those Canadiens. They're dangerous because they look just like us. *looks around conspiratorially*

Yes, and you can't trust anyone who would attempt a rescue in a "boot" instead of a boat. Obviously, they are to be feared.

And we Canadians are sovery dangerous. >_< With our equipment of searching. And of rescuing. It's a wonder the world allows us to continue unsupervised.

In other news, I was flabbergasted when I read that cops in the city were pulled off search & rescue to quell looters. Argh! The stuff's gone! Just let it go and save the people! *boggles*

The rescue attempts are probably just an excuse to take over the world. O.O

But, yeah. *boggles*

I'm going to dare to be somewhat positive about this, and actually try to defend the decision. This wasn't so much for the protection of property, but once people move past taking food they need and go on to taking TVs, you're going to have people trying to take the TV from them. At some point you need to crack down on the flagrant violations of law or it'll only keep escalating and then no one will get rescued. They already had to stop evacuating one hospital because the medics were being shot at.

Oh, I didn't hear about that. I did hear about the Wal-Mart whose gun section was entirely cleaned out. That made me quite fearful.

(Is it bad that it also gave me story ideas?)

It's not about pride, it's about control.

Aaah, you could be right about that.

I'm not expecting much from foreign nations because we hadn't asked for it.

That's my favorite line of the day. Really shows his own personal insight toward charity and care -- If they don't ask, don't give.

Darn Christian of him.

You know what? That was rather negative of me. I'll try to be more positive now...

It's very cool to see the list of countries offering aid. It's a shame we need disasters like this to bring the world together, but... silver linings. :-)

Yep. You hear so much anti-American sentiment coming from foreign presses, and I admit that I didn't expect help. I'd let myself become jaded.

I've never been so happy to have egg on my face in my whole life.

I expect a lot of people realize that not all Americans are as worthless as our current adminstration. (Only 55% or so, :P) I hope so, at least.

Maybe as little as the 51% who reelected Bozo & Co.?

Foreign press was even more contemptuous of Clinton.

I'm one of those worthless Americans who voted for Bush. But only because I thought Kerry was worse.

One of these days, we'll get somebody in office who isn't a criminal, an idiot, or a moral reprobate. *foolishly hopes*
