I've been talking with some friends lately about online relationships and how they're changing the world. There used to be a time when I would tell someone who came to the door, "Can't talk now, I'm on the phone!" Now it's more like, "Sorry, I have people waiting in a chat room..."
My sister just hooked up with a guy she met online. One of my bestest friends in the world,
jmeadows (who I have not met in real life!) met her husband online. I've met a few folks from LJ in real life, and the transition from online relationship to face-to-face relationship was seamless. These people are just as fabulous and fun in person as they are on screen.
But my parents don't think any of these relationships are real. Neither do some other "real life" friends. Maybe my experiences are not the norm? Maybe I've just been lucky? So, I'm curious about your experiences and what you think of online relationships.
( Highly scientific poll behind the cut )
THANKS!
