[livejournal.com profile] dark_geisha has some great thoughts on outlines... [livejournal.com profile] everyonesakitty on rewrites...[livejournal.com profile] jmeadows is busy on draft 2...so I'm inspired to write about writing.

In my whole life, I've written 3 short stories. And I'm only on my first draft of my first novel. Ten chapters later, I feel like I've learned a tiny bit about writing. (Such a veteran am I!) Enough, at least, to realize that my first 2 chapters suck bananas. I could let myself get discouraged, but I've decided to be thankful that I know they suck. That means I can do something about them. And by the time I finish, I'm sure I'll realize that suckiness is not limited to ch's 1 & 2.

But when I think about writing UM'd all over again, I just kinda want to...sob helplessly. It's been so much work already! I guess I'm learning from Jodi and Holly-kitty that I must be willing to re-write HUGE CHUNKS if necessary. It will make me a better writer, and eventual success *crosses fingers* will be all the sweeter for it. *takes deep breath* We shall not be discouraged! *raises fist in victory gesture* We shall press on, refusing to be defeated by massive rewrites and pesky outlines!

(and the crowd goes wild)

Please forgive these elementary ramblings, or just chalk them up to 'freshman writer'

Welcome to livejournal. Everyone forgives everyone else's elementary ramblings. :D

As long as, you know, you don't start a flame war. XP

Welcome to LJ land. I friended you. Feel free to friend me back. I'm in the middle of writing my first novel. I write fantasy also. I started in January by joining Forward Motion. I signed up for a Two-Year Novel class. I've learned so much there and one of them is that writing is work. I've rewritten my first chapter several times, and probably will again before it's all said and done. I'm learning it's all part of the process.

Hey, thx for the welcome and right back atcha with the friending. Yes, writing is work. After finishing each chapter, I feel like I've run a few miles with my brain. A novel class, huh? That sound pretty cool...

I'm learning so much. I feel mentally exhausted after Labor of Love. I'm taking the week off to recharge.
