Remind me to never quote song lyrics in my fiction, EVER AGAIN. This whole being-a-good-citizen-and-getting-permission thing is a pain in the booty.

I went through the same thing last year... wrote a story, included song lyrics, asked the ml about it, and, well, just decided to drop the lyrics. Because unless you're Stephen King you probably can't get away with that.

Alas, copying only two lines from this song constitutes about 25% of the whole. This may or may not come up against the "substantiality" factor. I could quote only one line if I had to; the story won't fall apart without the rest.

If I can't get permission, I'll make a decision then.

Weird. Authors wanting to maintain rights to their own stuff. Go figure.
