Writerly Stuff for 7/28/05
Jul. 28th, 2005 10:54 pmProgress: 1,177 words on "Becoming"
Words so far: 1,177 / approx 3,000
Made-up words: ain't, snorty, more'n
Barely avoided clichés: She gazed at me softly. *sporksporkspork*
The words I'll hate most to cut: She was a shriveled crescent of a woman, wrapped in what seemed like stiff burlap but undoubtedly was not, and she did not know the value of her name.
Thank God an editor didn't see this: Even so, in a few weeks she would be unrecognizable as the baby I already brought to the dock. (s/b doc)
General thoughts: I love writing short fiction. You can do a bunch of crazyweird stuff, and instead of justifying it, you just nod your knowing, literary nod and call it "experimental."
