When it comes to writing, I'm a wimp. Fearful, easily discouraged, unable to see potential when structural problems seem overwhelming...

I used to be a runner, back in the "skinny" days. I would experience what we runners call "The Wall." Depending on where I stood on the fitness scale, I would hit The Wall at mile 3, or mile 6, or mile 9. My lungs burned, my thighs felt like jello, I couldn't see straight. The Wall is a sudden moment of incapacitating weakness. Your body has reached its limit and refuses to go on.

But it's not real.

With enough determination, you can run through The Wall. And when you do, all the pain is worth it, because you truly reach Nirvana. Your body ceases to feel pain. Your breathing steadies. You feel like you can run forever.

I'm at The Wall with my WIP. It's not that I don't know where to go. I do know what comes next, but I feel weak and unable. If I can just write through it, I hope my brain will release the writing endorphins I need to plug along in blissful numbness. I want to feel like I can write forever.

So, I'm not going to be a wimp anymore. I've resolved to write ONE PARAGRAPH tonight. Then another tomorrow, and another until I am through The Wall. I want the writer's high, dang it!

Go Rae Go! Break through that terrible wall. You will succeed. You will finish your WIP!!!! I know you will. I'm glad to see you survived the corporate kidnapping unscathed.

You go, Rae! You can do it. Sustainable growth, that's my new writing mantra. Just do a little of what you can every day and it adds up, and next time maybe you can do more.

Are you talking about Unmagicked or Elisa's Belly? Can you work on something entirely different? A new short, perhaps?

Unmagicked. It's just a little too...much...for someone with my experience.

But yeah, I'm working on a couple of shorts right now!
