raefinlay: (Butler Attack)

There are two kinds of people in this world:  Those who use toilet seat covers, and those who don’t.

I was a TS Cover Person for years.  They are all the rage in California. When the seat cover-holder-thingy was empty, or when all the seat covers were jammed up inside, I would use TP to blanket the seat before sitting my butt down.  I thought this equated to “protection.”

Fast forward to my road trip with Charlie to Ohio.  Being possessed of an extraordinarily efficient urinary tract, I peed all across the United States, at least once each state.  (Insert "marking territory" joke here.)  During my cross-country pee, I noticed something weird….Toilet seat covers are NOT standard potty devices in every state.  I went days without seeing a single TSC!

My first thought was:  EW. That’s just gross. I bet there is a way higher instance of hiney-to-hiney cootie transfer in these poor, unenlightened states.

My second thought was:  Actually, I don’t think there is a higher instance of hiney-to-hiney cootie transfer.  In fact, aside from actually having sex on a toilet, I can’t think of a single disease that relies on hiney-to-hiney transfer.

And third:  If TSC’s are flushable, then they are easily permeable and not much of a barrier anyway.

So why do we use them?  Is it just for peace of mind’s sake?  Do they offer any kind of protection?  Are you a TSC Person?  Why or why not?
