Writerly Stuff for 10/2/05
Oct. 2nd, 2005 09:46 pmProgress: More on Elisa's Belly.
Made-up words: zag
Barely avoided clichés: This book contains a lot of things that stretch before Elisa in the distance. *sigh*
Thank God an editor didn't see this: Those lucky enough to be on there feet...
The words I'll hate most to cut: But that doesn't matter, because God placing his stone in my belly was never about me.
Black widows killed: None. But I've got my eye on two hanging from the eves of the garage. HUGE ones with big balloon abdomens. Alas, they are feeding on wasps from the nest just above. So. Mission Wasp Spray to be carried out within the Bastion of Pure Evil tomorrow.
What Elisa ate today: Nothing. Thought about it a bunch, though.
General thoughts: Today's first-line-of-WIP meme was the coolest evah. I so enjoyed seeing what everyone is working on.
Also, you know that old not-very-clever joke about how far a man can walk into the forest? Answer: halfway. Well, that's like novel-writing for me. I spent the first half walking into this book, setting up my story and characters. Now, this funny switcheroo has happened in my brain and I'm walking out of it now, my eye firmly fixed on the exit. During every scene I ask myself, how does this move the story toward its conclusion? Yes, it's a silly mental game, but it's helping me not feel stuck in the muddling middle. I'm moving forward toward the climax, dangit. Excelsior!
