When you replace the toilet paper roll, are you an "under" or "over" person? Does it bug you if someone does it "wrong?"

Or do you care?

(I'm an "over," and yes, the other way bugs me.)

Over, but I try not to get antsy about it. One of my cousins has a bathroom where she claims that under is the way to keep the heat register from blowing the toilet paper up and over the roll so that there's always a huge strip hanging down and fluttering in the breeze from the furnace. I can see how she might not want it to do that.

Ah, now that makes sense to me. I can totally get behind rational under-ness.

I'm an "over" person. It bugs me a little if it's "under", but not enough that I'd bother to change it. :)

Over.

And, yes, it bothers me. If I can, I'll switch it to the "right" way.

Me too! And I do this knowing that I would be profoundly irritated if someone came into my house and changed my toilet paper rolls. I'm a hypocrite.

"Over" and yes. I have been known to "fix" it in other people's houses.

I also get annoyed when the giant sideways-roll in a public bathroom is wrong. The paper should hang down the front, not the back!

YES!!! The giant ones are tough enough to deal with as it is.

Though I am over/under agnostic these days, as a kid my household was strictly under--mostly because it foiled the efforts of the cats to unspool it. They could spin it all they wanted from the front and it wouldn't unravel.

Ha! Tell that to my boys.

(Actually, what they do is leave one itty bitty square so they don't feel responsible for emptying it in the first place.)

I have very poor spacial abilities, so I don't actually know which is under and which is over. The end of the roll hangs down regardless, so how is it over or under? This makes no sense to me.

I have a mild preference to have it hang so that the loose end is away from the person, but this is just so it's harder for the cats to unravel the roll by pawing at the closer side. Is that under or over?

I live alone, so I would be very disturbed if someone else changed it at all. Who the hell is in my house and why are they mucking with the toilet paper (well, I suppose that's what the toilet paper is for, really, but STILL!)?

It doesn't bother me at other people's houses. I tend to frown when I find that other people have propped a roll up nearby rather than replacing the empty holder, but as long as there IS toilet paper, it's not really my problem.

There is NOTHING WORSE than being forced to drip dry at someone else's house.

-->That's under.

I have resolved my preference for "over" with my cat's tendency to attack the TP by removing the roll from the holder altogether. (It was in an awkward spot anyway, and my apartment has a deep windowsill right next to the toilet.)

Under, though the spouse is Over, and I could care less if I went to the bathroom and found the roll the Other Way.

Over, and I will change it if it's wrong. My grandmother was adamant that over was the appropriate position so that the perforation tears correctly. I don't know if that's actually true, but I'm willing to go with Gramma.

Oh come on! This is, of course, the entire reason for the 3rd Crusade! How could it not be an issue, even 800 years later. Jonathan Swift was going to use the toilet paper roll issue in Gulliver's travels, but it would have sparked too much controversy, so he switched to eggs instead.

I used to be an over, but then I had babies who loved to unroll the toilet paper by banging it a lot. Over makes it easier for them to do this. They still find a way to do it when it's under, but it's harder for them.

Over -- and since it's once in a blue moon that anyone else in the household even attempts to replace the empty card tube I am mostly untroubled by underness. The trouble with underness is that it puts the toilet paper end a centimetre away from the tiled wall, making it trickier to catch hold of. Also, the tiles sometimes get a very slight amount of condensation and then the paper gets stuck to the wall.

And yes it bothers me when it's under, much more difficult to get hold of. I read a poll about this once, and apparently most Danish women are under persons (looks nicer apparently), while most Danish men are over persons (more practical). :p

Over. No real reason, I just like it that way. My bros never would replace the roll, either. Used to drive my mom crazy. I love the dispenser that are a big hook. Just slide a roll on and it's done. So much easier to fix the rolls, too. Although with all the pregnancy peeing, I end up changing it most of the time.

Toilet lid up or down? We go with down because the cat is fascinated by potty water. WD's stepdad always, always leaves it up (seat too). *sighs*

"Under." Ken is an "over." I used to change it, but I suspect he did too, and so it became naught. Now it doesn't bother me that much. And I wouldn't do it in someone else's house, but if they were a friend I'd give them hell for doing it wrong.

I'm an over person for my house, but don't care how other people do it as long as there is some paper there.

Your method is the correct method.

I have seen some benefits to the other method, however. When the roll fits oddly, pulling up from beneath can result in a more even pull.

But of course it's preferable to just fix the damn fit.
